Donald Trump Says He Will Accept Bitcoin, Ether, Dogecoin and Other Cryptocurrencies for Campaign Donations
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump announced late Tuesday afternoon that he would accept donations in Bitcoin, Ether, Dogecoin, Solana and other cryptocurrencies. With the move, he became the first major party candidate to embrace digital currencies. Earlier this month, former President declared himself a cryptocurrency candidate at a gala at Mar-a-Lagopushing cryptocurrencies into the 2024 campaign.
Cryptocurrency donations will be accepted through the Coinbase Commerce product. “MAGA [Make America Great Again] supporters, now with a new cryptocurrency option, will build a cryptocurrency army that will carry the campaign to victory on November 5th,” according to the statement.
Trump’s recent stance on cryptocurrency is seen as an attack on Democrats, who have historically not supported cryptocurrency. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in particular, has campaigned against cryptocurrency. However, this year, some Democrats are also pro-cryptocurrency, distancing himself from Warren’s position.
Cryptocurrency it emerged as a political issue in this election year, with the presidential candidate Trump makes several pro-crypto statements statements during his campaigns. However, he has not yet stated how he intends to support the growth of cryptocurrency and blockchain through policy.
His stance on cryptocurrency represents a significant reversal. A few years ago, he denounced Bitcoin as “a scam against the US dollar” and said that central bank digital currencies are “very dangerous.” In recent years, he has said that cryptocurrency is “a disaster waiting to happen” and that “he’s not a fan of it.” But now he he says it looks “good” on him.
