Lilly Douse Envisions a Better World with Blockchain Technology
THE London Blockchain Conference 2024 (LBC) took place from 21st to 23rd May, with hundreds of outstanding speakers from around the world in the blockchain and future technology sector. The London Blockchain Conference (LBC) smashed its target of confirming at least 25% of female speakers, including an enthusiastic Conference Chair, Lilly gets wet.
Douse, who wears a variety of hats, describes herself as an entrepreneur, impact speaker, emcee, and podcast host in the blockchain, technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and fitness space.
I had the pleasure of spending three consecutive days with Douse at the LBC, starting each morning with a friendly greeting in the hotel gym, then chatting before the conference in the LBC hair and make-up room, and bumping into each other throughout the day on the LBC main stage.
Douse and I also met at Women in Blockchain Panel Eventwhich took place on the eve of May 22, a side event of the London Blockchain Conference, designed to bring together like-minded women, away from the hustle and bustle of a crowded conference.
During the Women in Blockchain event, on behalf of CoinGeek, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Douse to hear her thoughts on welcoming more women into the tech industry and her experience as chair of the LBC conference.
We started the discussion with the panel event “Women in Blockchain”, delving into why it is important to host and participate in events of this nature for advance the blockchain industry.
Douse expressed how much fun she had that evening, citing the beautiful energy and “feminine touch” that radiated throughout the room.
“We have to look at things from different perspectives and I think if we just look at it as one-dimensional, it will never work. So we need to involve more women,” she shared.
Douse pointed out that women make up about 50 percent of the population, so if we don’t include them, we’re missing a huge portion of the population we should be reaching.
She pointed out that women are not always pro-risk, or at least less than men, and can find it difficult to get involved in sectors considered riskier.
“We don’t want to push ourselves beyond our comfort zone,” Douse said.
“I think if we could try to bring more women into the industry and show them that you don’t need a specific degree… you don’t need a special background. You just need to believe in technology, believe in change, and really want to see a different future,” she said.
“These kinds of events are promoting that,” Douse added.
Moving on to the London Blockchain Conference, when asked about her experience as the main stage chair, she described it as “incredible.” In addition to introducing big names like by Steven Bartlett AND Scott GallowayShe was impressed by the general level of the participants, all with spirit and willingness to work together, even though in some cases they were competitors.
“We are a community,” he said.
“In blockchain, that’s what we care about. We want to create this better world that we want to live in. And that’s what we’re doing,” he said.
“I think the London Blockchain [Conference] It’s a great testament to that, like a mix of people. Everyone’s been so kind, so nice. And that’s really important because it makes my job a lot easier,” Douse added.
It was clear to anyone who saw Douse on stage that she is passionate about blockchain and the technology of the future which goes hand in hand. I was curious to know what excited Douse about the blockchain world in the first place, especially considering his degree is in chemistry and his previous work experience is in finance.
“For me, being part of something that’s constantly changing keeps me on edge. I want to be challenged,” she said.
“I see the changes, I see the progression. I sit there every day and someone tells me a problem, and I think we could even use AI, we could use blockchain, we could tokenize, there’s something we could do in our industry to make this better,” Douse said. “If you keep seeing this, it’s amazing what we can do.”
