OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, has been investigated by the US competition watchdog amid allegations that the company broke the law by using public data to publish inaccurate and defamatory material. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) asked OpenAI in a 20-page letter for specific information about its technology and privacy protections, including any steps it has taken to prevent repeat incidents in which its innovative chatbot has published information false and derogatory statements about a member of the public.
