A survey released Tuesday by global consulting firm PwC found that manufacturing organizations in India have increased their use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) solutions by more than 20 percent in the past two years. The adoption and implementation of AI/ML solutions in this space has increased at the fastest pace in the past two years, from mid-2020 to 2022-2023, according to the report. Further, many of these companies started using AI/ML in the 12-18 months following the pandemic and have seen the highest ROI from AI in three business functions: manufacturing and operations, supply chain and logistics, and IT and cybersecurity, according to PwC research.
Boston-based Rapid7 is the latest cybersecurity provider to announce layoffs; the reorganization plan, which would result in an 18% reduction in staff, was announced Tuesday night. Based on an estimated 2,700 staff at the end of 2022, with more than 700 people working at its Boston headquarters, about 500 employees could be affected. The company also said in an SEC filing that it will close several locations, though it did not say how many offices or which sites would be eliminated.
An innovative smartphone app that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to accurately identify physical symptoms of stroke was discussed by researchers at the 20th annual meeting of the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery. Researchers from UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and several medical facilities in Bulgaria participated in the study titled “Smartphone-Enabled Artificial intelligence Autonomous Stroke Detection Algorithms”. They collected information from 240 stroke patients at four large stroke centers. The researchers used cell phones to record videos of the patients and assess their arm strength within 72 hours of symptom onset to detect evidence of facial asymmetry, arm weakness, and speech abnormalities, which are often linked to strokes. to know more
